Is the train running today?
- It's our intention to run the train every day we're open. For 2022, that is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11-5. In the event of inclement weather, we are not able to run. (This can include a number of conditions that make it unsafe to operate, including but not limited to rain, snow, lightning, etc.) Please see below for info on our daily update phone system so you can always be 'in the loop.'
- The train runs all operating days, starting at open and until 30 minutes before closing. When it's busy we run approximately every 15 minutes. If it's a more casually paced day, we go when you're here, no need to wait for any minimum number of riders.
- The ride duration is approximately 10 minutes, length is one-half mile.
- We have had riders from 2 weeks old - 100 years old! Suitable for ALL ages. Please note that children 10 and under MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult, NO EXCEPTIONS.
- We are heavily weather dependent. Wet rail, due either to rain, snow, or in some cases even heavy fog or dew, may cause us to suspend train operations or delay the start of train runs. It is also possible a mid day storm could force us to suspend operations temporarily, or for the remainder of the day. We strongly recommend you call 401-250-3435, EXT 2 before you head out. We update this recording daily, approximately one hour prior to open (so around 10 a.m.) as well as any updates during the course of the day that might be needed. This gives us opportunity to assess track conditions for the day and provide you the most accurate update.
- On a busy day we keep the train to a pretty strict schedule, with departures every 15 minutes. If we're full when you arrive, your longest wait time should be less than 15-20 minutes. For special event runs (such as Holiday Lights) wait times may be as much as 40 minutes.
- Currently we are not accepting advance reservations. All tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.
- Service Dogs are always welcome! Well behaved dogs are permitted to ride with their owners. By bringing your dog on the train, you are affirming that your dog will not disrupt our other guests with any unwanted behaviors. We reserve the right to deny pets at our personal discretion if we do not feel satisfied that the animal is sufficiently well behaved/controlled.
- Ah, the trick question! We have 18 seats, 6 for each of 3 coaches. At a minimum, we can accommodate 18 passengers per run. However, we can easily carry more than 1 person per seat. Our train manufacturer has set a weight limit of 350 lbs PER SEAT. So virtually any combination of passengers whose combined weight does not exceed 350 lbs may share a seat. Short version: our capacity would generally be somewhere between 18 and 36, at the engineer and/or conductors discretion.
- The train station retail space is fully accessible by ramp and double doors that are ADA compliant. Unfortunately, the train seats themselves are not engineered to admit any adaptive devices, such as wheelchairs.
